Three floor-area ratios were modelled in DesignBuilder and compared on zone sensible heating, total cooling and general lighting, with FAR 1 proving most optimal. Buildings sit centred in 50×50 plots so light and green space reach all four sides.

Healing Trees was conceived as a new connection between humans, koalas and existing nature — a place filled with light and greenery that encourages involvement and co-creation, holding intensive care, rehabilitation, staff and exhibition under one roof.

A historic context caught between a rich past and an uncertain future for housing several generations. Surveying neighbouring public space revealed shared intersectional courtyards, so sunken gardens, roof gardens and patios were carried into the proposal.
